Abstract
Clinical observations were made over the 103 cases of non-calculous biliary tract disease at the Severance Hospital, Yonsei medical College.
Among the 103 cases, ascaris migration into the biliary tract is most frequantly encountered. They were treated by surgery but an effort to make pre-operative diagnosis of ascaris migration into the duct is made to see if it can be treated by non-surgical method. Of the 41 ascaris cases, 21 cases had biliary calculi either in gall bladder or in extra cholecystic area. Through the observation it is strongly impressed that repeated migration of the parasite may cause 1) to form extra cholecystic calculi and
2) to initiate intra-hepatic ductal stenosis.
Among the carcinoma of the bile ducts, 5 cases of Whipple¢¥s operation were seen with good result. Besides these two major entities, non-calculous cholecystitis, clonorchiasis, Perforation of the gallbladder, benign biliary stricture, hemobilia and benign tumour of the gallbladder were also observed.
